Muse30 Prompt #1

"Ads are the cave art of the twentieth century."
Marshall McLuhan

The first in the Muse30 series of creative prompts. The prompts will be one word/phrase and for each prompt, I'll include potential tangents & concepts to get you thinking about how to interpret the prompt. Just starting points, as these are open-ended! Go to the Muse30 Index to see the full series.

So that's it. One word. What will you do? Give your mind an assignment. What could you do with this idea/concept/theme/word/instruction/verb/noun? Your mind will take the word out for a spin and then later when you sit down with your journal, you'll have a direction, a first step, a color, a medium perhaps.

You can use this prompt to launch an art journal page, a doodle, an essay, a poem, a short story, etc.

Checking The Free Dictionary, found some intriguing tidbits:

"To press (a mark or design, for example) onto or into a surface."
"To impress firmly in the mind or memory."

"Any reproduced image, as a blueprint."
A print made by an impression of the ridges in the skin of a finger; often used for biometric identification in criminal investigations."
"To produce a photographic image from (a negative, for example) by passing light through film onto a photosensitive surface, especially sensitized paper."
"A printed publication such as a newspaper or book."

Here's what pops into my mind. A diagram of a printing press, printed {vs. cursive} lettering, block printing, xerox prints, printing something from the computer and using it on an art journal page, a newspaper, a photographic transfer. A mono-print. Block-printing. Carving a stamp and making a print.

“Embossed letters represent
the topography of typography.”
Jarod Kintz

As always, it's open to your creative interpretation.
