Groovy Grunge

For fans of mixed media art journaling. We will explore open-ended, intuitive, playful mixed media techniques using a hardback book as an art journal. I'll show you how to paint and layer acrylics and intermingle them with papers that you collect from everyday life. We'll work on the process of generating ideas and bringing them into your journal, "diving" in while refining and exercising your creative thinking skills. In other words.... loosening up and getting INTO your journal rather than worrying about the perfect page, the composition, the outcome. The techniques are all fresh & new. Brighter and more bouncy, working that graffiti grunge vibe. In addition to the painting and collage techniques, we will actively work through the process of incorporating words on pages. All in a positive environment designed to support artists to create  more openly and intuitively.

This workshop is about no-rules, free-spirited, intuitive art journaling. We'll build expressive pages in our journals, finding inspiration in graffiti and retro 1960's & 1970's art. Our ideas and materials intersect, interact & intermingle in the grooviest way! And along the way, I'll teach you a variety of techniques using acrylic paints and all of those luscious papers that you have collected for your collages.

The workshop is open! We'll create 6+ unique art journal pages that incorporate flexible alternative techniques that you can apply to your entire book. With variations and options galore. This is an online, self-paced workshop with video tutorials &  resources on a private workshop website, so you can access when it is convenient to you. The video content will be approximately 4 hours, concisely edited to make the absolute most of your valuable time.

You'll find pep talks & prompts & insights for getting words on your pages. Plus we'll talk about fear of the blank page and tips for WORKING in your journal. Art journalists with any level of experience welcome.

Art Materials? Upon registration, I'll provide a list of art materials & answer questions. You are encouraged to purchase as few materials as possible, but invest in good quality paints! For both Groovy Grunge and Novel Approach you'll need a hardback book, heavy body acrylic paint {Golden Heavy Body Acrylics or Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics}, a few brushes, a liquid adhesive {fluid matte medium or soft gel/gloss}, magazines, index cards and a handful of Neocolor II water-soluble crayons. The materials are the same as those for Novel Approach, with a few extras.

Details: Self-paced online workshop taught via video tutorials with creative prompts, tips & tricks. 20 videos; 3.5 hours of video.

Workshop access thru 12/31/19.

Fabulous feedback from Groovy Grunge artists!

"Wow, wow, wow!! These exercises are absolutely magical!!"  Sooz

"I am a BIG fan of Tammy's Novel Approach and Groovy Grunge classes! Well worth the investment as I have used many of the techniques I learned in art pieces I created afterwards. I find I often go back and repeat specific exercises that I really love. But it doesn't stop there! I get so inspired by what my new class "mates" come up with - so many creative takes on Tammy's original ideas. I recently took another online class by another instructor and was constantly comparing them to Tammy - she wins hands down for well planned, structured and awesomely delivered classes." Julie

"Tammy's workshops are pure delight - she is very thorough in her approach and always leads you down wonderful and imaginative paths. I highly recommend them!" Patricia

"I find Tammy Garcia's online workshops to be very organized and so inspiring. Full of the details I need, but with the freedom and permission to be me. Tammy inspires me to try so many things I would not try on my own and she attracts a lot of fun & creative people to her workshops. It is a joy to participate!" Lenna

"This fun workshop is reasonably priced for the lessons, encouragement and new-found friendships I've developed with other women all over the world and I highly recommend it to everyone, regardless of how much or how little your experience in this field." Barb

"This was such a fun workshop that I am going to do it again." Jane

"I can totally recommend Tammy's workshops, she is so giving of herself, her ideas and techniques - and they are such FUN!" Jo

Super feedback from Tiny Museum students!

"I LOVE the art I've made for Tiny Museum. I've bought more watercolor journals because it's such a lovely medium and I just want to keep doing more! I love how Tammy puts her workshops together - everything is very clear and easy to follow and she provides great feedback. The video tutorials are wonderful - they're beautifully produced and an absolute joy to watch." Rebecca

"Labor Day I had the house to myself {heaven} and had so much fun playing with the inspiration grids. I could keep going forever. Color and pattern are my happy place." Carlene

"A warm-up grid where I focused on exploring the relationship of water & paint, not so much on patterns. For me it was about noticing the tiny interactions between colors, how the paint hits the water. This was incredibly relaxing to do!" Patricia

"That lady could motivate a snail to stand up and do the tango! Watercolor and gouache are certainly dancing together in my journal as I work through the many videos in this class. I'm sure everyone has their own approach but I enjoy working while listening to the videos, listening and following along very loosely while Tammy describes what's she's doing. Her enthusiasm is contagious and helps cut through the painful haze I am swimming through every day." Michelle

The Circle

Circle Registration is Now Closed

I have long wanted to create an experience where I guide folks through creative experiments, curious explorations and the mental gyrations & gymnastics that result in SEEING your creative work in a fresh way. The Circle can help support your goal of creating art each day or even each week. It is a deep dive into the daily creative habit. We'll work on small format art with ideas, tutorials and resources that are launching points for further adventures. Use it as a starting point, a continuation or a little playground.

Super feedback from Circlets!

"I love being in the company of like-minded women. I am inspired, nudged, reminded, and excited by what others observe, the things that inspire them, and their art." Opal

"I've taken several Daisy Yellow courses and participated in ICAD three times, but joining The Circle this year was exactly what I needed to push past the "perfectionistic procrastination" that has plagued me when it comes to making art. The prompts and the questions led to many creative wanderings (both tangible and intangible), and seeing all the exciting work that was shared is a constant reminder that "it's all good."  I am so grateful for Tammy's inspiration and encouragement -- I heartily recommend her classes, especially The Circle." Melinda

"This year I joined the Circle and this took me on a fun but also deeper experience, with more in-depth suggestions for techniques, questions to stimulate my thinking about creating and art, and more support and encouragement to explore in a smaller group. I also found Tammy's videos a great visual experience and loved her easy banter with the participants." Susan

"The Circle workshop has enriched my creative process by helping me to dive deeper into my art making. The discussion topics are thought provoking & encompass many different aspects of the creative process. There is a wonderful camaraderie among group members as well! I highly recommend this workshop!" Patricia

"I've only been part of The Circle for less than two weeks, but it's already made a huge difference to me. Yes, I've learned new techniques and made and/or deepened connections with others whom I knew from Daisy Yellow and ICAD, but more than that, I feel really encouraged to break out of limiting patterns of creativity and thinking! I'm PLAYING, and reaping the benefits. I feel like you made this "event" just for me." Jamie

Workshop access thru 12/31/18. Facebook group access until 05/20/18.

Know Before Registering

Workshop fees are for one participant and cannot be shared/transferred. Private Facebook groups are open to women only. Technical support is not provided to workshop participants. Workshop fees are non-refundable.

Workshops are taught via video tutorials on a private website. They are self-paced with 24/7 access so that you can work at your own pace. Videos are posted via Vimeo and are not downloadable. You'll need basic computer skills, a high speed internet connection, the ability to login to a website using a userid/password and navigate a website.

Although I do not offer "forever" access, I have extended access to every workshop for multiple years! This is something that I re-evaluate on an on-going basis. I know too well that technology changes, website hosting services change terms, hard drives & back-up hard drives crash and video technology improves. Further, my ability to support the workshops can change and I want to provide the best possible experience for students.

Painted Paper Paradise & Watercolor Playground: Registration closed.
Workshop access thru 12/31/17.
